Giloy is a versatile climbing shrub known for its incredible medicinal properties. In Ayurveda, it is hailed as ‘Amrita’ (Nectar of Life) because of its ability to treat a vast range of health conditions and its life-prolonging qualities.

Scientific Identification

Ayurvedic Properties (Guna-Karma)

  • Rasa (Taste): Tikta (Bitter) and Kashaya (Astringent).
  • Virya (Potency): Ushna (Heating). Despite being heating, it is unique as it balances Pitta.
  • Vipaka (Post-Digestive Effect): Madhur (Sweet).
  • Dosha Karma: It is a Tridosha Shamaka, meaning it balances Vata, Pitta, and Kapha simultaneously.

  1. Treatment of Chronic Fevers: Giloy is an anti-pyretic herb. it is exceptionally effective in managing chronic fevers, Dengue, Malaria, and Typhoid. It is widely used to increase platelet counts.
