Chandigarh/Ludhiana: In response to the LPG crisis triggered by tensions in West Asia, the Punjab government has initiated a major crackdown. To prevent ‘panic booking’ and the black marketing of gas cylinders, Deputy Commissioners (DCs) across various districts have issued strict directives to ensure a smooth supply.
Raids on Black Marketeers
Teams from the Food and Supplies Department are conducting raids on gas agencies and godowns in districts like Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Barnala. Following reports of hoarding and overcharging, the administration has warned that any agency found selling cylinders above the fixed rates will face immediate cancellation of their license.
Curbing Panic Bookings
Fearing a total supply cutoff due to global conflict, residents have been rushing to book cylinders in advance. To manage this, new measures have been introduced:
- Booking Limits: Consumers are restricted from booking multiple cylinders before a specific interval.
- Prioritized Delivery: Agencies have been instructed to verify needs and ensure delivery to genuine consumers first.
Government Assurance
The Punjab government and oil marketing companies have urged citizens not to panic. They maintained that India has sufficient LPG reserves and is in constant touch with the central government to ensure the supply chain remains uninterrupted.
