‘Yellow Alert’ for Weather in Punjab: Warning of Rain, Thunderstorms, and Strong Winds for 4 Days Starting Tomorrow

CHANDIGARH/LUDHIANA, March 13, 2026: The weather pattern in Punjab and Chandigarh is set to change significantly starting tomorrow, Saturday (March 14). The Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for the state for the next four days, predicting rain and thunderstorms accompanied by high-velocity winds.

Full Update: March 14 to March 17

According to the Meteorological Centre Chandigarh, a new Western Disturbance is becoming active, which will trigger sudden weather changes across various parts of Punjab:

  • Strong Winds: From March 14 to March 17, the state is expected to experience strong and cold winds with speeds ranging between 30 to 40 km/h.
  • Rain and Lightning: Several districts are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall along with lightning and thunderstorms.
  • Dip in Temperature: Over the past few days, temperatures in many Punjabi cities have been crossing 30°C (e.g., Ludhiana at 30.8°C and Sri Anandpur Sahib at 33.5°C). This rain and wind are expected to bring the temperature down by 2°C to 4°C, providing relief from the rising heat.

Most Affected Districts

The Meteorological Department has specifically warned of more severe weather conditions in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, and Mohali. Additionally, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Patiala are expected to see cloudy skies and strong winds.

Advisory for Farmers

Agricultural experts have advised farmers to manage irrigation and pesticide spraying schedules carefully, keeping this weather change in mind. Strong winds pose a risk to the ripening wheat crops, which could lead to potential damage if the plants lodge (fall over).
